3 Powerful Herbal Medicines Gaining Mainstream Popularity

People have turned to herbal medicines to prevent and treat ailments since ancient times. As more research emerges to support the positive effects of certain herbal remedies, they continue to gain mainstream popularity in Western society. In recent years, people have become increasingly aware of the potential benefits of herbal medicines, and more interested in incorporating them into their diets and lifestyles.

At Tamim Teas, we are dedicated to our craft of creating delicious herbal elixirs designed to harness some of nature’s most potent nourishing ingredients and deliver them to you! We’re going to highlight three of our favorite herbal medicines, and talk about their wonderful impacts on health and well-being.

Adaptogenic Mushrooms

Okay, so technically this one is a fungus and not a type of herb- but it certainly deserves recognition in a discussion of powerful natural remedies.

After being a staple in eastern medicine for thousands of years, medicinal mushrooms are finally gaining popularity in the Western world. And for good reason - they are believed to have a plethora of amazing health benefits. We use four varieties of functional mushrooms in our tea blends:

Studies point to how Chaga mushroom may have powerful antioxidant effects, aid digestion, boost energy, and possibly even help combat cancer [1, 2, 3]. This wonderful mushroom is used in our Chaga Chai and Reishi Chaga Boost tea blends.

Reishi mushroom has long been used to promote longevity due to its purported ability to treat a range of illnesses including cancer, immune disorders, liver ailments, depression, fatigue, stomach issues [4]. Our Reishi Delight and Reishi Chaga Boost mushroom teas are made with this fantastic mushroom.

Lion’s mane mushroom is known for its positive neuro-cognitive effects, improving memory and concentration [5] and reducing anxiety and depression [6]. Research also shows that lion’s mane possesses high antioxidant concentration and has anti-inflammatory effects [7, 8]. You can find lion’s mane mushroom in our Lion’s Spice and Lion-Maitake Clarity tea blends.

Maitake mushroom has been found to have immune-enhancing effects and high levels of nutrients, including vitamin B, potassium, protein and fiber [9]. The nutrients contained in this mushroom offer a wide range of health benefits. Enjoy the benefits of the maitake mushroom with our Lion-Maitake Clarity blend.

Turmeric

Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin, which has been shown to be a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory [10]. Studies have also shown curcumin to increase levels of BDNF in the brain, which can enhance cognition and neurogenesis [11]. Curcumin has also been associated with a reduction of cardiovascular disease, and possibly help to prevent or inhibit the development of cancer [1213].

Turmeric is a key ingredient in our Lion’s Spice mushroom tea, and we also add it to our Chaga Chai tea. Both of these blends also contain organic peppercorn, which drastically increases the bioavailability and absorption of the curcumin in turmeric [14].

Ginger

You’ll find ginger in many of our mushroom tea blends (Lion’s Spice, Lion-Maitake ClarityChaga Chai, and Reishi Chaga Boost) - and for a good reason! Ginger offers so many benefits.

Research has shown that ginger can be used to treat nausea, obesity, arthritis, diabetes, indigestion, menstrual pain, high cholesterol, and may even protect against cancer and Alzheimer’s disease [15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23]. Gingerol, the primary bioactive compound in ginger, is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and is responsible for many of ginger’s medicinal properties [24].
